Welcome to my classroom page. My name is Mrs. Young and I teach first grade in pod 5. I'm excited to teach my students everyday about the important things to know of course. But I also want to teach them through the process of collaborative learning and through discovery.

Education:
  • University of Tennessee Knoxville: I received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Elementary Education. I then received my Masters in Elementary Education.
  • Lincoln Memorial University: Education Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership
About Me:
I started out teaching a 1st and 2nd multi-age class. Our school then went to single grade level classes. I then taught first grade for about 9 years. Our school then switched to looping classes. I was in a first and second grade loop for 2 years. The rest of my career has been in first grade. I have lived in Blount County all of my life. I graduated from Heritage High School in 1997. After graduating from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, I was hired at Alcoa Elementary to teach a 1st and 2nd grade multi-age class. My husband Mark and I were married in 2005. We met on a blind date. :) A parent introduced us. We have two children. Our oldest is our daughter, Livia. Our son, Luke, is 3 years younger than Livi. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. In my spare time, I like to read, get pedicures, and catch up with friends. I also don't mind finding a good sale.
