ETFS is a free six-week summer literacy enrichment and empowerment program to be held at three Knox and one Blount county sites June 10-July 16, 2024. Our primary goal is to stem Summer Learning Loss. Each year, we offer our program at no cost to up to 130 underserved students, (we call them “scholars”), from a variety of neighborhoods and backgrounds. Most of the scholars we serve are eligible for free- or reduced-lunch. We support our scholars’ skill building in reading, comprehension, and critical thinking so they are more successful when reentering school in the fall. We conduct pre- and post-assessments on instructional reading level. Our scholars also exercise their civic muscles as they practice making a difference in their community. In addition, we hold Family Engagement Workshops for parents/caregivers on ways to best support their child’s success and their household.
